"Well, I suppose you might want to find something shock absorbant, and of course you'll want them to be rather sturdy and durable, and comfort is a must....", Maria mused, "Beyond that, I can't really say... What type of shoes are you most comfortable in?", she asked. Maria figured that if she could find out what type of shoe Ea was most comfortable wearing, it would be much easier to find a good pair of shoes for Ea to train in. She looked around again. That strange follower from earlier was nowhere to be found, so why did she still feel like she was being watched? Wait... What was that behind that shoe rack? A flash of motion? Maria shook her head. She was just being paranoid... Maria turned her attention back to the task at hand.

Ea looked down at her feet. She was, in fact, wearing some footwear that probably dated back around the twenties. "I dress up in historical costumes for fun, remember? I've learned to be comfortable in everything." She flashed Maria a wide smile. It was hard to stay nervous with an amazing girl like Maria around. A girl that was all hers, at least for now.
Behind the shoes rack that had drawn Maria's attention, the pissed off tourist glared at the two girls. "They're holding hands! And no body cares!"
"Look, man." His friend grabbed his arm. "Leave them be. Obviously, the locals are cool with it, so..."
The first guy shrugged the hand off angrily. "Whatever. We'll get them when they leave." He stormed out of the store before his friend had a chance to protest.

"Okay, then. In that case, I suppose a pair of boots would be best. I find that they're sturdy, durable, and they give good traction. Useful for being a monkey...", Maria said, half-kidding about the monkey remark, "Don't worry though. We won't be jumping through trees just yet.", she added, hoping Ea wouldn't think they'd start with that right away. Maria spotted a rack with several pairs of boots. Leading Ea to the rack, Maria looked around just in time to see someone storm out the door. <Blond hair... Could he be from earlier?>, she thought, frowning slightly, <I'd better stall for a bit. If he is the one from earlier, it could be dangerous to leave too soon. But how to do that without Ea noticing...?>. Maria turned her attention back to Ea. "So, any favorite colors?", she asked.

"Boots?" Ea grinned. "Sounds perfect!" The image of her trying to do what Maria did... Slipping through the branches like some sort of- physical representation of poetry. Of beauty. Ea could never do that. A blush rose on her cheeks at even the thought of trying. "Perhaps it would be best to wait. Become frogs, before we evolve into monkeys?"
Following Maria's gaze, she frowned. "Everything okay?" Maria was jumpy, and Ea wondered if this was life for her, constantly training to prevent something that happened years ago. The thought had her heart aching. She would try to protect her, as best as she could. For the rest of their lives, even. If Maria would let her.
That thought- and the feeling that it left her with, as if she could explode from the inside out, heart overloading with this warmth. She was a little distracted, almost missing Maria's next question. "Favorite color? Oh, I like... Light blue? I'm not too picky, though... You?"

"Boots it is, then!", Maria said, smiling. She couldn't help but giggle at Ea's comment about frogs. "Okay. We will. I have to make sure you're super comfy on the ground, first... Or at least a balance beam.", she said, trying to reassure Ea.
"Everything's ...fine.", Maria said, hating the fact that she was lying to Ea, but also not wanting to worry her. Maria had a very bad feeling about that blond-haired man. There was something about how he'd carried himself... "Don't worry, Ea. Everything's fine.", Maria repeated, somehow managing to avoid making her emotions obvious.
"My favorite colors are purple, green, and black.", Maria answered, "But you're the one we're shopping for!", she added. Maria frowned a little. Good boots for training didn't usually come in light blue... Those kinds of boots were usually meant more for looking good than anything else. Then, she suddenly found herself smiling. After all, if Ea wanted light blue boots for training, and those were hard to find, it could mean hours of searching and asking the salespeople. By then, their unknown follower would surely grow tired of waiting for them, yes? It was perfect. Two birds, one beautiful stone. If light blue boots Ea wanted, light blue boots Ea would get.

"A balance beam?" Ea grinned. "I love balance beams! When I was a kid, there was a year or two where I wanted to be a gymnast... but alas! I am too short. And kinda dumpy. And not very flexable..." She giggled quietly, a small smile on her lips, though her cheeks lushed a little red at the memories of such days. She had been such a stupid kid...
Ea blinked. There was something off about Maria's tone... Had she said something wrong? Her stomach clenched uncomfortably, and she suddenly felt like she might be sick. "Are- Are you sure? You're acting strange... Not that I think you're strange! I mean... I suck at this." She bit her lip. Around Maria, she just couldn't keep her mouth shut. Or say anything right, apparently.
The frown was back, and Ea didn't like it. Maria should never have to frown. She deserved a wonderful life, or as close to one as Ea could give her. "Those colors suit you." She didn't know what else to say. "They're beautiful, just like you..."

Maria fought back a giggle. "Ea, everyone's too short for gymnastics, except for the tall girls, and they're too tall! You would make a great gymnast. There's excersizes for increasing flexibility, you know.", she said, trying to inspire Ea.
"... I...", Maria started, tired of lying, but still not wanting to worry Ea. "... Okay. I think our mysterious admirer may have found us again... And he didn't look to happy that we're taken. I didn't want to say anything because I didn't want you to worry...", Maria continued, deciding it was the lesser of two evils to tell Ea about the stranger man who had stormed out of the store.
"You really think so? Thanks!", Maria replied, smiling. "Well, shall we find those boots?", she asked, hoping it would take long enough to bore the mysterious pursuer.

"Oh..." Ea chuckled. "Well, in that case... maybe I'll ask around and see if anyone knows enough to teach me." There had to be someone in La Campana who could reteach her the basics. Ea was beginning to suspect that there was a little of everything at La Campana. And she had to admit, the prospect of her getting onto a balance beam again... Was an exciting one, to say the least. "Do you know any of those exercises?"
Ea's shoulders tensed in anticipation of Maria's admitance. Her eyes went wide, and she chanced a look behind her shoulder, though she didn't see anything out of the ordinary. "He did? Do you... Do you think he's going to try anything?" Sensing the concern in Maria's own voice, Ea tried to hide her worry, as best she could. "I mean, we're in a crowded mall, and the school isn't too far away. We'll be fine, right?"
"Of course I think you're beautiful..." Ea leans in and kisses Maria's cheek. "I love you, remember?" She laughs nervously, loving the boldness that sometimes coursed through her. "Yes! Yes, let's find these boots, then!" She looked around, amazed by the sheer amount of shoes this place had in stock. "Where should we start?"

"That sounds like a plan!", Maria eagerly exclaimed, grinning broadly. She felt proud to have helped Ea realise she could be a gymnast. Maria hated to see people's dreams fade because of silly insecurities. She'd seen a couple of her friends lose their dreams not to others, but to themselves. "... Sorry... I've always been naturally flexible...", Maria sadly replied, "But I'm sure we can find someone who does!", she added reassuringly.
"I'm not sure... He might, he might not... But, I think it best if we take our time in here, just to be sure.", Maria explained, "If he is planning something, maybe we can take long enough for him to grow bored and leave. If he isn't, then we'll perhaps be a bit behind schedule, but we'll be safe.", she continued, trying to sound sure of herself. A tiny voice in the back of her head told her things weren't going to be that easy, but she ignored it.
Maria blushed at the kiss. "Yes. And I'm very lucky!", Maria said, kissing Ea's forehead.
"All right!", Maria said, smiling. "I think we should try to find a saleslady first.", she replied, already looking around for one, "Wow... They've got enough shoes here for a whole army and then some...", she gasped, amazed at the selection, "And to think this is only a part of their selection!", she added, grinning broadly.

Ea nodded, eager all of a sudden. Maria just made her want to try anything and everything... made her feel like she had a chance at it, too. it was an amazing feeling, and one she never wanted to lose. Another reason to stay with Maria as long as she could. Though that comment about Maria being flexible... Her cheeks colored. Bad Ea! That was not where her mind needed to go right now! No no no! She hummed her agreement, wishing the blush away. "Lucky... Will you help me find someone? I mean, ah... would you mind? If it's not too much trouble?"
"I don't mind... taking our time... I'm not about to get bored with you here..." And that was not helping her embarrassment, either, saying things like that! It was the truth, though. "You... really think he is planning something?" She bit her lip. Well, no way he was gonna hurt Maria. Not if she had anything to say about it.
Her eyes closed as Maria's lips touched her forehead, and she sighed happily. "I would have to disagree and say I'm the lucky one... but each to one's own, right?"
Ea spotted a saleslady, and waved her down. "Excuse me? May we have some help... Please?" She turned back to Maria, nodding. "It's exciting! I hardly ever buy anything new... Mostly I just get things at second-hand stores and vintage shops... But this is a lot of fun!" She bounces a bit on the balls of her feet. "Do you think they'll have what we're looking for, though?"
