Nikolai Nixon was hiding- shhh!
Okay, so not very cleverly. . .He could clearly be seen at the foot of the fountain. A small flashlight illuminated the pages of his book while the fountain behind him illuminated (ahem, saying there are lights in the fountain XD Go with it?) the back of his mint green pajama top. He had matching pants, both of the sort of material that was 'silky', but not silk. He was no expert- it felt soft, and it didn't get too hot.
Nikolai hated the hot days of summer. Give him winter any day- or give him a November autumn in Japan. Yeah. . . He'd been born in Japan. Odd as it was, considering he wasn't Asian. But his parents had planned a trip a year in advance and - oops! Got pregnant. They had to go on the trip anyway. Nikolai and his sister, Daisha, were born out of country in November when Japan was truly colorful and beautiful- at least in their minds.
This August month, though, was deadly in his mind. It seemed hotter at night than it had in the morning (previously that had seemed impossible to him). It was definitely lame. He'd protest. Definitely. Maybe he should go inside where it was cooler?
Not a chance. People were in there! And his book was too good. Yeah, that was the excuse.
So why did he push aside his book, turn off and set aside his flashlight, and turn to lay on his back? To watch the sky with his curious, light brown eyes? Niko couldn't have explained why the urge came to mind in the first place. But yes, to watch the sky. Above him stars lit it as if by magic. . .where was the moon? Nowhere in sight.
"Even the man in the moon disappeared,"Niko muttered. He sounded bewildered by this observation, as though it were a shocking situation and not just a cycle that he knew the ball of cheese would undergo a million times. . .
