&&--The character cheat sheet
Name: Matthew Williams
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Hair Color: Pale blond
Eye Color: Violet
Skin Tone: Pale
Height: 5’6”
Weight: 139 lbs
Wealth: Well-off
Sexual Orientation: Matthew’s sexuality is generally something that is of quite the debate. Perhaps the closest possible representation would be polysexual, because the man does not generally outwardly show any sort of sexual interest in either gender, being a bit too polite and a bit too shy to really approach anyone. He wants attention and recognition and values both above actual sexual attraction, leading many to believe he is asexual.
Why they are in La Campana: Unlike many of the other students, Matthew’s ’deviant’ sexuality was not the reason for his detention at La Campana. Instead, he actually enrolled himself, realizing that being able to list a private, well-renowned school on his university applications would be a great bonus. He has no intention of correcting his sexuality, and merely endeavors to get through this year and graduate without problems.

Turn Ons:
❊ Sweets. Though he'll never admit to it, Matthew has the tiniest kink for sugary substances in the bedroom.
❊ Getting attention. A person who can remember who he is is automatically slightly attractive.
❊ Having his ahoge [flyaway hair] played with. For some odd reason it seems to be a major erogenous zone.
❊ A bit of forcefulness. Being slightly shy, he appreciates someone who can take the lead some of the time.
❊ Intelligence and compassion. Exuberance is very nice, but only when it is tempered with a decent mind.
❊ Wintertime/snow. There’s just something utterly romantic and enthralling about it, though his fascination with such is less sexual and more romantic.
❊ French. Having grown up around it as a young child, Matthew is enthralled by the smoky-smooth tones of a true Parisian accent. Not to mention one of his providences prefers it over English.
❊ A bit of pain. Perhaps stemming from his love/lust for hockey, Matthew does, at times, enjoy being roughed up and roughing his lovers up.
Turn Offs:
❊ People who are too uptight or move too fast

Goals/Aspirations:
❊ To become noticed for something grand
❊ To step out of his brothers’ shadows
❊ To become either a diplomat or part of the Mounties, one of the two
Appearance:
When one first truly notices Matthew, perhaps the most striking thing that they take in is his tremendous resemblance to his southern brother. However, if one looks closer, there are a plethora of small details that separate him from being completely identical to Alfred. Unlike his brother, he tends to take after his original caretaker instead of Arthur, but even with a few of France’s characteristics, he still presents with an appearance that is truly unique to himself.
Matthew’s hair is a dark shade of blond and very, very fine, giving it a brushed gold appearance in the right lighting. It has a wavy texture and falls to just above his shoulders, always well groomed except for a very small, singular strand that tends to stick out from the rest. This strand curls around itself and refuses to ever be tamed, not that the man enjoys it being touched anyways. It is a peculiar point on his anatomy, in as much as it seems to be a rather pronounced erogenous zone, though no one seems to know why. Either way, because of this he tends to protect this strand and does not enjoy having people idly molest it, if only because the results can be somewhat embarrassing.
Bright purple eyes are always hidden behind small oval-shaped lenses, filled with curiosity, kindness, and (more often than not) frustration. While not incredibly shy, a small blush usually graces his cheeks, merely a side effect of his light skin tone and the fact that he is easily excited. He is naturally pale and does not tan easily, instead burning when exposed to too much sun. While wearing clothes, it would seem that his form is frail, but nothing could be further from the truth. Indeed, it is true that he does not possess the freakish strength that his twin does, but Matthew is anything but weak. Instead, he is well muscled and toned, strong enough to carry around a small bear if he so wishes, though he rarely exhibits this ability. He is not a child to be pushed around, though his personality would suggest it.
Personality: A stark contrast to his twin, Matthew Williams is a quiet, if somewhat nondescript nation. He is generally soft-spoken and sensitive, entirely unwilling to get into fights if at all possible and generally ends up as a negotiator during most fights between his family. Wisdom and intelligence temper his speech, and while he does come across as slightly awkward and naïve at times, he is actually quite a good diplomat, if a bit rough around the edges.
On a personal level, he is a very easy-going person and enjoys the simpler things in life. Cooking is a passion of his, perhaps coming from his early French roots, and he generally enjoys making and serving dishes to those who come to visit him. Hockey, not surprisingly, is another passion of his, and woe to any person who either A. is a rival of his, or B. insults the sport. During the season is perhaps the only time that it is possible to see Matthew in a hyper-aggressive state. He is unrelenting and unforgiving when it comes to playing, and has been known to start minor fights with people who upset him when he is in his “hockey fervor”, which tends to surprise those who are not aware of his love/lust of the game. He is also an outdoorsman and before his arrival at La Campana, he enjoyed spending much of his free time up in the north woods camping, hiking, skiing, and generally just living off of the land the best he could.
Matthew has a love-hate relationship with his family. While he is attached to both Alfred, Francis, and Arthur, he tends to grow very frustrated with the three of them on an almost regular basis. He struggles, at times, to keep his own identity separate from them, and can be very touchy when it comes to the subject of his parents, but all in all he does appreciate the other nations for what they’ve done for him. Surprisingly as well, he can grow rather possessive of all of them, though he is much more likely to strike out at others behind the scenes if he feels any of them have been wronged. On the other hand, he makes no qualms about telling the three that he isn’t someone that they can lord over and will not hesitate to assert himself if he feels he has been wronged.
Similar to his brother, he has an innate need for attention, but because of the ‘invisible’ effect that he has culminated, he has been forced to learn to deal with being ignored. Despite his accomplishments, he is absolutely unable to gain recognition for himself other than from a few certain people, and even then he is overlooked unless he is exactly needed. One would expect for Matthew to have a plethora of self-esteem issues from this, but instead he is merely resilient, determined that one day he will be able to stand out from his boisterous brother and obtain the recognition he deserves. He is hearty, and while he does occasionally become down, it is quite hard to keep him consistently depressed.
There is still a spark of something quite distinctly French in the way he behaves as well, as Arthur was unable to stomp out all of Francis’ influence completely. He is bilingual, but can also hold simple conversations in a variety of languages (Chinese, Korean, Russian, Ukrainian, etc) because of his eagerness to learn and the places he grew up around. This also culminates into a variety of accents that he occasionally picks up, depending on whom he is speaking to (and in what language), though his normal speech is generally just peppered with a very faint inflection and the use of the word “eh” quite a bit.
Alcohol and Matthew do not mix well, and while he was raised to appreciate fine wine and later (in Canada) whiskey, he has an abysmally low tolerance for anything not of those two varieties. While it wouldn’t seem to be much of a problem for any normal person, there is something about the intoxicant that tends to draw out a repressed, more aggressive side to the boy. While not physically or verbally violent, he seems to gain much more confidence as well as growing very, very amorous to those around him. Indeed, it could almost be said that he begins to take after his adoptive father while under the influence, though to a much lesser degree, though the focus of his affections seem to be less selective and more along the lines of ‘anyone who is nearby’. Stranger so, it appears that after a long night of overindulgence, Matthew tends to wake up rather surly and angry, reverting to Quebecois Joual and such and generally behaving in the exact opposite manner that he normally does. Abrasive, demanding, and insulting, it is generally a very wise idea to avoid the young man until he has had time to recover.
At his core, Matthew is a generally nice, if a bit passive-aggressive, person, more willing to step down from arguments then to create them. He has the ability to be cruel if he so wishes, and he has on multiple occasions, but he much prefers peace to acts of war and the fighting that tends to erupt in the halls of the school. Though he may be seen as ‘uninteresting’ or ‘forgettable’ he is anything but and merely strives to better himself for his people’s sake.

History: The second child of a pair of teenagers, Matthew was abandoned shortly after he was born. He spent the first few years of his life living in an orphanage along with many other children, including, surprisingly, his older brother. Too young to really know anything, he merely was raised by the matron of the place until he was four years old, at which he caught the eye of the influential Bonnefoy family. Adopted posthaste, he was whisked away from the dreary life of an orphan and instead brought into the lavish life of French culture.
He was cared for by a man known as Francis, though Matthew did not inherit all of his benefactor’s exuberance and zest for life. While he was entirely grateful to his adoptive brother, he grew to be much quieter and less outgoing, and subsequently was often lost beneath the older man’s vivacious personality. The survived, did quite well actually, but never truly fit in to the flamboyant household as well as he should have. Still, the boy was quite happy with his new family and strived to be the best he could be under Francis’ tutelage.
Years later it was sheer serendipity that reunited the two brothers. In a surprising twist of fate, Alfred had been adopted by one of Francis’ close friends
Life passed uneventfully for a while, and while he was not entirely neglected, Matthew was increasingly ignored by his adoptive father. Though the man still loved him, he became busy, and one of Francis’ rivals managed to call child services on the Frenchman, and through a steady manipulation and a few illegal bribes, gained custody of the young Canadian.
Arthur Kirkland was his name, and his acquisition of the child was more to hurt his French father then for any care for the boy. He immediately set out to ‘better’ Matthew, attempting to purge Francis’ influences from the boy, and what occurred was a rapid change in the child. He became much, much more introverted, quiet, and generally unwilling to raise his voice in order to gain attention, falling behind his brother Alfred. Even as the years went on and Alfred rebelled, Matthew was still unable to gain favor in his new family, always ranked second and generally treated as subpar by his caretaker. Eventually such things were inexcusable, and Matthew confronted Arthur, firmly requesting that he be allowed to return to Canada, even going to far as to find a very fancy school North America that would have been ‘acceptable’ to the British man. It took quite some cajoling, but he managed to wear the other down, and happily he set out for the other country.
It was only recently that he managed to spy an ad for La Campana Acadamia, and though he was not concerned for his sexuality, having long decided that he was simply not entirely interesting in anything of the sort, he enrolled, shipping himself off to Spain in order to have the accredited school on his resume for when he needed to apply for universities. Though he was happy in Canada, the decision was made, and now he attends the boarding school, just content to pass on through and graduate.

It was certainly commendable that Alfred was attempting to learn a bit of his brother’s own birth tongue, and the sheer awkwardness of the throaty, purring language whispered from the elder’s lips was amusingly adorable in its own right. Perhaps under different circumstances Matthew would have laughed and corrected him, but the shock of what he had just done was still reeling throughout his body, silencing his voice and befuddling his brain. The American had proposed, he had accepted…the weight of the situation was finally beginning to sink in, and he felt momentarily lightheaded, strength sapped from his limbs by the surge of emotion. He was easily manipulated, confused for a moment as to why Al was pulling away, and a split second of panic shot down his spine before rationality took over once again.
He had never seen anyone actually proposed to in real life, only the overblown, Hollywood interpretations of it that occasionally were on television when he actually cared to watch, so Matthew was slightly unsure of what his brother expected him to do, how he was supposed to react. Elation and excitement, yes, but the feelings went far deeper than merely the superficial outward emotions; the feeling of warmed metal sliding onto his finger was…it was almost as if a part of himself had been returned. Being bonded to Al was just right, he knew it deep down. They were opposites, separate halves of something more, and together they were complete, the elder’s vivacious liveliness and the younger’s quiet support an almost perfect dichotomy of thought and being. Perhaps he could have been more poetic, but while he had been waxing about things, Alfred had, in normal fashion, grabbed ahold of him and lifted, drawing a rather surprised squwak from the Canadian’s throat.
They spun for a moment, and the younger found himself lavished with praise, with attention, with love, and for a bit he was too stunned to register and return the treatment. Alfred was always surprising him, it seemed. They were snuggled together on the bed, and Matthew leaned into the warmth that his brother radiated, soaking up the contentment quietly as he attempted to get his own feelings back on track. Go? Where was there to go, and why would he have-oh. Oh. After every wedding there was a trip filled with bliss, excitement, and unparalleled debauchery…his face went red just thinking about it. The rose blush that colored his pale cheeks was being attacked now, and he couldn’t help but melt under the kisses, keening softly under his breath.
Typical of Alfred to suggest skipping class, but with how late it was already, and with how utterly emotionally ruined he was already, the younger blond didn’t have much of a current issue with it. Sure, he felt slightly guilty for missing his lessons…but dieu, he was getting married. O-oh, the heavy weight of the statement finally hit home, and he felt mildly ill for a moment, fear, anxiety, not to mention confusion knotting in his stomach. How in the world were they going to pull such a feat off? Did Spain even allow such acts? How were they going to break the news to their respective guardians, if at all? Stress began to eat away at his innards, and instinctively he looked around for his normally present, fluffy, white companion.
Kumajiro…where was Kumajiro? It was incomprehensible that he could have lost the bear, and for a moment Matthew felt a rush of panic. Unlike his ‘other father’ he didn’t quite subscribe to the belief that spirits and such existed, but sometimes he could swear that the stuffed animal had a mind of its own, wandering off and talking to him on occasion (usually to ask who he was, which he supposed was rather sad, because his mind was obviously overstressed). Could it be another case of the toy having its own mind again, or had he just left the thing back in his room? Usually he curled up with the plush, but lately he hadn’t the need to do so, with a larger, warmer body pressed against his through the nights. There was something so instinctively pleasing about drifting off next to Alfred, to know that he was safe next to the larger form…it was almost as if his brother had begun to replace the bear, though of course that was impossible. Kumajiro had with him for as long as he could remember, perhaps longer, and he would never give him up.
Still, that didn’t solve the issue of where the stuffed animal was, but as he was about to raise a protest to his brother that they needed to go right now to find it, his train of thought melted away with the feeling of soft lips brushing across his own. An effective distraction, that was for sure; it seemed that Alfred had already learned, in the last few months, how to effectively calm his mind with only a small action. He jerked in surprise moments later, however as a pale pink tongue darted out, dancing across his damp cheeks without warning.
It was a curiously ticklish sensation, though the tears refused to stop, even at the display of unbridled affection. Incredulous laughter punctuated the sobbing now, and Matthew attempted to squirm away from his brother (fiancée now?), burying his head in the other blond’s shoulder as he tried to regain control over himself. It was an odd mixture of feelings, almost entirely impossible to describe in either of his mother tongues, but there was a warmth that suffused the entire situation, and he trembled slightly against the larger body, seeking the heat and comfort that the man seemed to be infused with. “Tabarnac, I know, I know…c-can’t stop, just can’t.”
His words were punctured by soft sniffles and just a hint of disbelieving mirth, and he wriggled, placing kisses along the expanse of Al’s face, following the bone with unpracticed grace. “I’m just…oui, I’m here with you. I’m just happy, that’s it. Just…here for now, oui, just stay like this.”
