The seat was still warm. That fact was comfortable and unpleasant simultaneously... though the current educatorbabysitter had refused to allow a switch of desks. His bare toes drummed against the smooth green of the tiled floor. Yes, yes, he'd been forced from his usual crouch more than once, which was exactly why he had been shipped here. 'Smartass'; that was the word his professor used, yet the man failed to recognize the lack of sarcasm in his tone. Given, no standard human would perceive such a subtle hint, but for once he'd been genuinely honest. Sitting like this, so awkwardly open, it made him feel vulnerable-- and that immediately brought about a weakening in his reasoning ability.
Ever so cautiously, smoothly, slowly, those denim clad knees rose before the disciplinarian shot a hand out to slam the desk, probably to startle him into dropping his feet down. Instead L remained stiffly frozen in the position with his legs lifted halfway into the air… A staring match ensued, glare on one side and bored gaze from the other. Anticlimactically, the loud speaker requested the male’s presence and with a word or two he’d completely ignored, the other headed off in the perfect manner of professionalism. The ability to shift between a spaz and respectable preceptor would have been impressive if L wasn’t so irritated by his attempted dominance. Feet pressed into the eerie warmth of the chair.
He’d likely be here a while. Even though it was only one hour required, if he left before a certain individual’s return, he’d face another round of detentions. How bothersome. Was this supposed to be teaching him masculinity and heterosexual qualities? Seriously? Being forced into submission, it was almost embarrassing how wayward their goals were coming.
The birds chirping slipped through the glass of the window and raven locks dipped as he rested his cheek on his knees, allowing that brilliant mind to wander. Now. Back to the case… Teeth nibbled on the jean’s wrinkles, unconsciously following the distracting avionic movement. It was much quieter here. It was fortunate he’d been sentenced on a day when the room would be completely empty. Most here were surprisingly well-contained.

Once again she had been caught, this was getting very annoying this time she had been caught for being drunk last night. She was still feeling the effects of her hangover but all the bad symptoms had finally come and gone which was good. Jade was pushed into the room and she growled punching the door once it shut and latched after she got in, she was pissed but luckily she took a seat next to the open window because she snuck in her pack of cigarettes, she smirked and chuckled to herself. She looked around but then spotted a boy and quite a weird looking one he sat in his chair in the oddest way, she rolled her eyes and turned away. She guessed he would say something if he saw her smoking and if he tattled on her then she would really be pissed and she was pissed enough as it was. Jade sighed out of great annoyance but then remembered that she had a manga in her bag so she opened up her bag, a nice shoulder bag with a wolf on it, her favorite animal. She took out the graphic novel and opened it up, then a small smile came across her face but that didn't mean her mood had changed, she liked loved her manga's and that was the only reason she was smiling, paying no attention to the boy across the room.

His thumb had migrated to those pale lips and, upon the sudden slam, started against his mouth in surprise. To most, the slight shift would’ve been imperceptible to even notice. It had occurred all the same. L had allowed his attention to dawdle on the nature beyond the manmade barrier, absorbed in the stacks of information his mind stored on the Cyanide Tide Investigation. He nearly cringed at the rhyme. The media had a way of sullying something already as dirty as murder, adding carnival names onto the victim, perpetrator and case as a whole. The corpses were found after being flushed in by the tide, only it was an imitation of drowning since traces of cyanide were found in most of the victims.
Except one.
Quietly he lowered his head down to the boney knees again, contemplating why one had been shot outright. It just didn’t fit. There were no signs of a struggle either. Considering the ma- His nose twitched… Then he glanced over, resisting the sour look he wished to form. True, if he followed his goals for a career, a long life wasn’t guaranteed. But he did not need illness to slow down his progress. Second hand smoke, while hardly as disgusting as direct puffing, still posed a major threat to those exposed. And beyond that, it was a horrid stench, succeeding in drawing a throb if inhaled too regularly. He wouldn’t allow it.
“Smoking is prohibited on the campus premises. However, I don’t care if one wishes to clog their lungs as long as it’s quite a ways from affecting myself as well.” The words were spoken to the window, L’s attention not even aimed in the female’s direction.

She just kept her eyes on her manga and she wished she could start smoking but she decided in the end not to. But she did happen to caught a scent of it guessing some people were smoking outside which just annoyed her to no end. Jade wasn't to close attention and she then looked through her bag once more until she pulled out her blue Ipod nano and stuck one of the earphones in her ears but left the other one out so in case she was going to be talked to. But then she heard someone speaking guessing it was the boy who was also in the room she glared not taking her eyes from her manga and she growled lightly. Did it look like she was smoking? No she was going to but in the end for now she decided not to until detention was over and she was getting more angered by the second and she felt like throwing something at the wall but didn't have anything to throw so that wasn't going to work. Jade just turned one of her pages sighed heavily and out of great annoyance.
"I don't believe I was doing anything of that nature and if I was it doesn't matter and I don't think it's any of your business."
She had a great amount of annoyance in her voice hell he's lucky she didn't yell at him. She couldn't stand it when people said something about her smoking habit but her drinking problem was much worse. Jade then got more into her manga after that little incident that happened that happened not even a minute ago. She was almost half way done with her manga and had the next one in her bag in case she got done. She then yawned lightly but silently and looked to the boy out of the corner of her emerald green orbs and she shot a glare. Jade then looked back to her manga letting her gaze soften a bit but not much and she flipped through more and more pages. She looked out of the window for a minute seeing it looked like the sun was beginning to go down which she liked because she loved the nightlife more then anything. Boy she couldn't wait to get out of here so she could actually smoke and if she got caught she couldn't care less but did want to get the hell out of here.

The words were harsh and sharp, correcting. He disliked being corrected but it was only natural to assume… that anger problem and her arrival exactly when the scent whiffed in. He didn’t feel like glancing back to confirm her words, too lazy to when the bothersome smoke seemed to fade. This would be a bothersome situation. That moron would return and glare while this young woman seemed to think she owned the right to the quality of oxygen. At least he’d made her reconsider for the time being. Though he was hardly the type to settle for leaving such ignorant comments alone.
“On the contrary, my health is my business. I could list off a number of tests and various reasons behind my logic but I’m sure this hasn’t been the first lecture.” He proceeded to nibble on a hangnail, mumbles muffled against the digit… then knees pressed tighter to his chest. “If smoking isn’t the plan, than return to that educational novel.”

Jade wasn't paying to close attention now that she had her music and was reading her manga, listening to Evanescence her favorite band of all time. She actually started to hum it to herself softly, she could tell that the smoke was fading which was good because the urge to smoke herself just went down but she still had a slight urge but not enough to really do it now. It would seem she started to calm down a little bit as well when it came to her mood but that quickly ended and caused her to get angry again once the boy started to speak once more. She couldn't care less about someone else's health, she didn't even care about her own if someone wanted to be stupid and be close to someone who was smoking then that was there problem and it wouldn't cause her to stop. She lowered her manga and just going to slam it on the desk but she resisted and growled once more and she sighed once more. Trying to not snap or lose her temper which she seemed to do alot but she couldn't help it with all the emotion issues she had.
"Pfft...I don't even really care about my own health let alone someone else's that's why you stay away from smoking but if someone wants to be stupid and stand right next to them then go for it."
But then when he spoke again about her manga that just about did her in, what was this guy's problem? Jade was about to lose her mind it was bad enough she was being pursued by teachers day and night because of her smoking and drinking problems but with all the stuff that's happened to her over the years she couldn't help but do this kind of stuff and if no one liked it then oh well it was too bad for them. She wanted to know why this guy was angering her because she hadn't done anything for it to happen, she hated why people did this stuff to her for no reason. So she put her bookmark in her manga and then slammed it down on the table and turned her body enough to see him in full view with her right hand balled up into a fist like she was going to knock someone out which she would love to do right now but wasn't going to or wasn't going to yet.
"Alright, what the hell is your problem?! your acting like a stuck up asshole who knows everything when I'm guessing your don't."
It was now that she began to get snappy, this was driving her nuts and as soon as she got out of here she was going to smoke her whole pack of cigarette's and chug a six pack of beer and get so drunk she'll have a hangover for a week. Jade growled once more and arched her arm and rubbed her temple with her left hand trying to calm herself down. But it didn't seem to be working that well but she should get points for trying, since this guy was going to piss her off more not try to calm her down. Since she just snapped at him she guessed he was going to do the same and she was going to prepare for the worse since she guessed it was coming. Her cold looking emerald orbs scanned him until she then shifted her gaze to the side looking back to the window wondering if she could get out of it but it was a bit high. So she wasn't going to even try so she just sat there thinking maybe if she put both earphones in and blasted her music she wouldn't hear the yelling that was probably going to come eventually.

L rose a brow at the response. The female was acting as though he’d skipped on over to a smoking area or random human chimney, but no… no, that fact was… he’d come to detention, a no-smoking area and therefore expected a smoke-free environment. It was rather logical, yes? It seemed logic mattered less than cancer sticks to the other. But he wasn’t particularly annoyed. Only rare circumstances earned his aggravation and even rarer individuals. This one was very much the same as any normal teenager: moody, ignorant and focused on trivial pursuits. It wasn’t a solid judgment as he never made such a shallow conclusions; it was merely an observation from the behavior she had been exuding.
“I believe I was here first. Perhaps the stupidity was not my own as this isn’t a designated area for the action. It’s only natural it would disturb another who actually does care for their well-being.”
And there she blew again. Maybe it was due to spending so much time around maturity, but he didn’t quite understand where the outbursts were coming from. Educational novel was worthy of cussing? She had been quite rude since the beginning and minor sarcasm was a ‘problem’ in comparison? L recognized that he was harsh, blunt, selfish and rather inconsiderate… yet he hadn’t exactly induced an argument. He mistook her smoking, yes, but then she’d had to snap. Well, he could probably assume why she’d become a detainee.
“I have a few problems. However, I don’t wish to share them as I will handle them myself. Also, that language is hardly necessary. But yes, while I don’t know the literal of everything, I am an expert on many illnesses and the particularly on the effects of smoking. It causes so many deaths per year, the knowledge is necessary.” He lulled his head. His dull voice sounded robotic, like reading out of a text since he hadn’t even halted thoughts on the case. It was more important than this altercation.

She had just about had enough, she didn't care one bit who was here first and she wouldn't be here if the teachers didn't make a big deal of stupid things. Well things that were stupid to her she was drunk last night but not bad enough to do anything but no that didn't matter which just drove her nuts. Jade just didn't even bother to answer the first thing the boy had said she just didn't even really feel like answering, was health really that bad of deal? Everyone died eventually anyway so might as well do what you want and if you die early oh well. But then of course he had more to say she knew all to well what smoking did to you but with the way her life was it didn't matter so she might as well just do this stuff and hope one day it just kills her. She just shook her head not really sure what else to do because it now seemed like she was going to get a huge lecture and she really didn't want one but had a feeling it was coming.
"I'm well aware of what smoking can do to you but everyone dies eventually so I don't think this type of stuff should really be a big deal..."
Jade then reached into her pocket just making sure she had everything feeling the pack of cigarette's smirking knowing they were still in there. She didn't take them out, she was waiting until she got out of here in order to do that. She then took a hold of her Ipod and scrolled through it, the clicking could only be heard through her earphones so the boy wasn't able to hear it then once she found a song she liked she put it one then gently put her Ipod back on the desk. She didn't feel like reading her manga anymore, she was too annoyed so she slipped it back into her bag and folded her arms on the desk and rested her head on them and shut her emerald orbs, this was the last thing she could think of to calm herself down because if she got any more pissed off then she would most likely get up and punch the boy right in the face so maybe zoning out or maybe even falling asleep until this detention was over then she would most likely feel better.

“You don’t think.” L repeated thoughtfully. “A singular individual with a viewpoint on life and smoking, that is quite respectable, but don’t press that viewpoint on those around. I hardly care what my fellow classmate believes, do not smoke around me.” Since subtle requests weren’t working, he’d be firm. This girl was being selfish. She didn’t care about her health- he wouldn’t force her too- but thinking that other’s health shouldn’t matter as well, that was a faulty argument. L had no anger or annoyance in his voice. He could only become upset when the discussion partner had a feasible excuse or response. These were too immature.
He watched her settle down. Then did so himself. He might as well drop it. She was too young to understand. So he returned to pondering the investigation and let her cool off as she pleased. It was a pointless disagreement anyways. Hardly one he cared to win, as long as she left the pack in her bag.

She was beginning to calm herself but hearing him speak once more her eyes went wide for a moment then narrowed into a dark glare. It was when people said stuff like that which drove her nuts everyone would tell her that because she got so angry very easily and she was always blinded by it. But that didn't mean she hardly thought, she growled but decided instead of blowing up she would just sighed greatly out of annoyance and just kept her head down. She just couldn't take it, guys like the one she was stuck with at the moment just pissed her off, she felt like punching him in the face but she didn't do so. Jade just sighed to herself and just let herself relax she was almost beginning to fall asleep but she kept herself awake she looked to the clock wanting this evil prison sentence to end, she was going to rush out of here once it did. If she heard one more thing out of that boy's mouth she was going to break his jaw. Her emerald orbs then shut as she hid her face by snuggling into her folded arms, she let out a soft sigh and she just started to zone out.
