Appearance: Tika is something of a petite girl. Standing at roughly 4'11", she can't recall a time in her life when her friends didn't jest about her being a midget.
Personality: Despite her small stature, Tika exudes a bit of a 'tough girl' attitude without even really knowing it. She has a bit of a crude sense of humor, and while she doesn't always express what she thinks, she can turn just about anything into a dirty joke. She's always been very interested in sports, and loves ultimate frisbee in particular. Tika can be painfully shy upon her first couple of meetings with someone, but once she feels comfortable, she can go to her regular, loud-mouthed self. She cannot stand anything that she perceives is unjust, and has a bit of an antagonistic side because of that. She's always felt more comfortable becoming friends with boys rather than girls, simply because she felt that they were not as catty or complex as the girls she knew. Yet, despite her tomboyish demeanor, Tika has a surprisingly feminine facet of her personality. Due to her mother never really being around as she grew up, and her father working long hours to make ends meet, she ended up doing most of the caring for her younger sisters; cooking, cleaning, bathing, tucking in, etc. She's quite motherly when one gets to know her, and always has advice or a shoulder to cry upon for anyone who needs it. However, while she seems to be somewhat of a foundation for many others (ex: her younger sisters), she's really quite insecure about herself. That insecurity can soon bloom into antagonistic ways, loud-mouth tendencies, and just plain old depression at times. Yet, Tika manages to remain strong for her sisters, and sees it as her responsibility to help them through life.[/font]

History:Tika was born to Albert Williams and Putri Garuda, a young married couple. Albert was an American businessman, working in Jakarta, Indonesia. It was there that he met Tika's soon-to-be-mother, Putri, a Javanese woman. They began to see each other, meeting up at social mixers and parties, and altogether enjoying the nightlife of the big city. After about two years of their dating, Albert proposed to Putri, and she hapily agreed to become his wife. Of course, soon enough, Putri became pregnant with Tika. Albert was absolutely delighted at the idea of a family, and was quite excited to welcome a child into their house. Putri, however, was not so pleased at this prospect. She saw the child as a curtailing of her freedom, and as soon as Tika was born, their marriage began to fall apart. Putri didn't try to connect with her newborn baby, instead hiring a nanny, Nakula, to nurse Tika. Nakula had become the closest thing to a mother that Tika ever had, taking her out to the park while her mother was out, caring for her while the child was ill, and always setting aside time at night to tuck her in. While Albert was out working all day, Putri stole away from the home, going out with her friends to party. Of course, she began to see another man, which is when the real trouble began.
Tika was barely three years old when her mother began to come home late at night, either drunk, high, or both. Nakula would try to shield Tika from this by hiding the child within her chambers, so as to keep her away from the wrath of her mother. These episodes would happen whenever her father was out on a business trip, so there was no one else home but the three women. Tika would wait patiently in her bed, just as Nakula would tell her to, blissfully oblivious to the beating that Nakula was recieving from her intoxicated employer. One of these nights, Tika had climbed out of bed after hearing Nakula cry out, and crept to the door. Peeking between the crack of the door and its frame, she would see Nakula writhing in pain at the hand of, none other than the girl's mother. In an act of pure, familial love for Nakula, Tika ran out of her safe place and put herself between her biological mother and her nurse. And it was at that moment that Tika had first felt the cold, crisp sting of her mother's slap across her face. The shock of the impact was enough to make the young toddler faint. From that moment onward, she developed a deep-rooted fear of her mother.
Soon after that incident, her mother became pregnant with Tika's sister, Saraswati. Her father thought that another child could save the marriage (although he did not know that another man was part of this equation), and nine months later, Tika was a big sister. Shortly after her sister's birth, Alfred found out about his wife's affair. The couple promptly filed for divorce, and that was simply that. Due to her mother's inability to work and provide a steady income, Tika and her sister were given over to her father for full custody. Their father, a succesful businessman, had the money to send them to the private Jakarta International School, where they had received a well-balanced education. As an American, he tried to teach Tia and her sister English, and suceeded in his efforts. However, the mother tongue of bahasa Indonesia would still be the first to place itself upon Tika's lips.
Upon her seventh birthday, Tika's mother became pregnant once again, this time with Kemala, a lovechild from one of her boyfriends. The man left her before he even found out that she was pregnant. Her mother demanded that the girls be there for the birth of their half-sister, and were soon forced to go. But after Tika got a first look of her new baby sister, she felt her protective instincts kick in. She decided that she would, from then onward, live with her mother to protect her half-sister (knowing that her mother was absolute incapable of raising the baby herself.) After all the paperwork was filed, and she'd been shipped off to live with her mother, Tika was already ten years old. She spent the next years in Jakarta with her mother and half-sister, communicating with Saraswati and her father by e-mail. She had been enrolled in Jakarta International School, a private school with an American curriculum in Indonesia. It was in that school that she met someone who would play a role in her life that would change it forevermore.
Her name was Kimberly Michaelson, the daughter of a high-profile British politician, Bridget Michaelson, whom was doing work overseas in Jakarta. Tika had never gotten particularly close to Kimberly, but would notice the most peculiar things about her; the way her green eyes would always crinkle at the edges when she laughed, the fragrant scent of her honey-vanilla shampoo as she walked across the room, the way she walked with such a perfect balance of grace and power. She was independent and free, a strong girl who knew what she wanted and how to get it. Kimberly was stubborn every now and again, and had a way of steering herself out of the ways of the catty clique wars that Tika despised. Tika found herself rather attracted to this girl, but had no idea what to think of it. She was always so nervous around girls before, and Kimberly was certainly no exception. However, she didn't exactly know what to call the feelings she had for the girl. At age 12, she wasn't very experienced in the matters of love, and while always surrounded by guy-friends, she had never found herself in a relationship. To try to sort out her feelings, she began to keep a journal, careful to keep her mother from finding it. In the journal, she wrote virtually only about Kimberly...how she looked that day, the way she acted, and sometimes ever how they talked with one another, if she was brave enough. After about a year of it, Tika found herself to be a blossoming 13-year-old girl, growing into her role of a young woman. She had a slightly fuller figure, and found a shred of confidence in that...or at least, enough to make her feel sure enough to talk to Kimberly. It wasn't as though she was the only person attracted to her, at any rate. Many of her friends (all guys) were vying for Kim's attention as well. So, by playing the only card she had on the guys (a.k.a., the 'Since-we're-girls-let's-be-friends' card), she began to get closer to Kimberly, her affections for her growing with each day. Of course, she wrote furiously about this everyday within her notebook. One day, however, she tossed the journal across the room haphazardly as Kimberly came to pick her up at the door. Her mother found it, and being the 'good, Christian woman' that she was, immediately took the rest of Tika's tuition money, and used it to send her La Campana.
Roleplaying Sample: Bewitching: noun; to enchant, enrapture, or otherwise fascinate.
Yes, that certainly was the right term for Kimberly. Her eyes, spell-bindingly beautiful...her skin, so pale and supple...her laughter, so airy and ethereal. She could only imagine what it would be like, to lay upon the grassy field in the schoolyard, laughing over one inside joke or another with the young woman. Their joviality would be contagious, love would spread through the school as people walked by the girls, smiling in acceptance. Tika would run her hand across Kimberly's cheek, calming the giddiness of her friend, her love. Then, she would lift her chin slightly, and press her lips to hers. It would be magical and beautiful and tangible and so god-damned real, that no one would ever be able to deny them. No one would ever be able to deny the depth of the love the girls shared, the purity of the affinity that they shared. It isn't unnatural for one to fall in love, especially for a girl as irresistible as Kimberly. As she would pull away, Tika's mother tongue would escape her lips once again, her words flowing like honey;
"Anda begitu sangat hebat, Kimberly."
And Kimberly would understand, for that magical being of a girl understood all that was Tika.
...or, at least, it would all be happening should Tika have not left her journal out in the open for her homophobic mother to read. It would all be happening if she wasn't sent off to the 'reformatory school' in Barcelona. She didn't care much for Europe, at anyrate. Some people referred to Spanish as a romance language, something that was passionate and filled with love. But whenever Tika heard the language spoken, all she heard was the language of the conquerors of South America, the killers of the Rajas in the Philippines, the language of the men who nearly slaughtered her people so many years ago.
She huffed as she sat back in her plane seat. The woman known as her mother didn't even bother to see her out the door. Tika's mind was racked with questions; what would they do to her at the school? Torture? Brain-washing? Would they force her to do things she didn't want to with men? And what of her sister with Mother? How would she fare without Tika? With her mind all over the place, there was simply no hope of sleep at all. Knowing this, Tika grabbed a bottle of sleeping pills from her pocket, and popped a handful in her mouth. As the drugs began to infect her, slowing her system down for a rest, the last word upon her lips was the very reason she came here...
"Kimberly..."
